Morning mist clings to the slopes above Accra as a minivan winds onto the Akuapem Ridge, the road opening to tall palms and a cool, green air that feels like a reset. You step out at a botanical garden where avenues of palms and ficus shade cement paths; later the trail narrows to a forested scramble beneath an umbrella-shaped rock that peaks above the canopy.

Before You Go

Start early

Morning visits avoid crowds and the afternoon rains common on the ridge; aim to be at the gardens by 7:30–8:00 a.m.

Grip and stability

Wear sturdy closed shoes with good traction for wet rocks at Boti Falls and the short scramble to Umbrella Rock.
