The Experience

You step out of the air-conditioned car into heat that smells of wet earth and cardamom; palms lean close and a distant rock rises like a ruined king watching the plain. This six-day private loop from Bandaranaike International Airport threads the Cultural Triangle and the central highlands — Sigiriya’s 5th-century rock fortress, the ruined avenues of Polonnaruwa, the painted caves of Dambulla and the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy — then climbs into cool tea country around Nuwara Eliya.

Before You Go

Climb Sigiriya early

Start the Sigiriya ascent at first light to avoid heat and crowds; the stair sections can be steep and exposed.

Dress for temples

Wear shoulders-and-knees-covered clothing and remove shoes at temple entrances; carry a quick sarong or scarf.
