The Experience

The sun drops behind sandstone towers as your jeep eases into Wadi Rum; the desert exhales heat by day and a cold, clear night sky by dusk. Over nine days this itinerary moves you from Amman’s limestone terraces and Roman ruins to Nabatean tombs carved deep in rose-red rock, and down to the strange buoyancy of the Dead Sea.

Before You Go

Hydrate deliberately

Carry a 1–2L refillable water bottle and top up where provided — Jordan is dry and supply can be limited between stops.

Comfortable, broken-in footwear

Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip are essential for Petra’s uneven rock and stair sections; sandals are fine at the Dead Sea but not for ruins.

Pace the Petra climbs

Allow extra time and energy for the Monastery (about 800 steps) and High Place of Sacrifice; start early to avoid midday heat.

Protect against sun and sand

Sunglasses, a wide-brim hat and a lightweight buff will keep sun and windblown sand at bay during Wadi Rum Jeep tours.
