The Experience

Before You Go

Bring a hydration pack

Carry 1–2 liters; water is limited on rural stretches and you’ll want fluids for the picnic stop.

Use grippy trail shoes

Soles that cling to pedals and are comfortable for short hikes will improve control on loose, steep sections.

Ride early to avoid traffic

Finish the descent before late afternoon when valley roads get busier and hotter.

Check equipment weight limits

Bikes are provided but check that size and suspension match your weight for safe handling on descents.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Small roadside tea gardens where locals dry and bundle leaves for market
  • A fog-forest picnic clearing offering uninterrupted views down into the Cauca Valley on clear days

Wildlife

  • Andean motmot
  • Common opossum

Conservation Note

Ride on established roads to limit erosion; follow guide instructions and carry out waste — highland soils are fragile and recovery is slow.

The route follows centuries-old rural connector roads linking highland farms to Cali’s markets; land use reflects smallholder agriculture and coffee/tea microplots.
