The Experience

A warm trade wind tugs at your shirt as the van crosses the island toward Bonaire’s north shore. The limestone cliffs there lean toward the sea and hollow out into dark mouths; your guide meets you with a headlamp and a steadying hand. You duck into the first cave by ladder, breathe the dense, humid air, and watch calcite and fossil-rich limestone pick up the beam of your light and seem to glow.

Before You Go

Wear closed-toe shoes

Sturdy sneakers or light approach shoes protect your feet on sharp limestone and uneven surfaces.

Bring extra water and sunscreen

Caves are humid but the approach is exposed to sun—stay hydrated and protect skin between cave stops.

Mind your head and step

Low ceilings and loose rocks require attentive movement—duck, bend, and use the guide’s hand when offered.

Charge or bring a spare camera battery

Low light conditions and long photo sessions drain batteries quickly; your guide supplies a headlamp but not extra camera power.

No—guides provide head flashlights, but you may bring a personal light or extra batteries for cameras.

Will I have time to swim or cliff-jump?

The itinerary includes a low, safe cliff-jump option at a small coastal site; participants choose whether to jump and should be comfortable in the water.

How do cruise passengers meet the guide?

The guide meets cruise passengers just outside the ship security gate with a name sign and will be there about 15 minutes before departure; stay by the gate if you don’t see them.
